Anna Gagne Laybourn, AICP

Central Mountain Area Representative

Anna (Gagne) Laybourn AICP - My home is in the town of Carbondale and I have enjoyed providing planning consulting services for communities throughout the West with the firm Design Workshop for ten years. Prior to joining Design Workshop I worked as a Transportation Planner for five years in Columbus Ohio and completed my master’s degree in City and Regional Planning at the Ohio State.

The majority of my work is based in communities throughout the Central Mountain Area of Colorado. I have been fortunate to work alongside planners, community leaders and private sector developers completing a wide variety of plans. Some of the work I’m most passionate about is creating parks and open space plans to improve the well-being of people and communities. Many of my past projects have been honored with Awards from APA Small Town and Rural Area Division, APA County Division, American Society of Landscape Architects, Pierre L’Enfant International Planning Award, and the City-County Communications & Marketing Association.

In addition to AICP I hold certifications from the National Charrette Institute and Leadership Strategies in Public Facilitation. I have served as the APA Colorado Awards Chair for the past three years and been a member of the committee for the past seven.  APA has provided me with many opportunities to test ideas and work with others in the profession to pioneer new approaches. Some of this I have had the opportunity to express in past APA conference presentations and Planning Magazine Articles such as:

• 2015 National Conference “ Recreation in the Right-of-Way”
• 2014 APA Planning Magazine “Don’t Fence Me In”
• 2013 CO APA “Gardens for a Metropolis”
• 2011 APA Western Planners Conference “New Approaches in Western Land Conservation”
• 2011 COAPA “ The Health and Nature Connection”
• 2009 COAPA “Engaging Communities in Envisioning their Future
• 2008 National Conference “Advances in Sustainable Tourism and Resort Communities
• 2007 COAPA “The Renaissance of Resort and Tourism Communities”
