To perform routine technical and clerical work in the field of current planning; to review and process zoning applications; to provide public assistance at the information counter; and to perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions:

1. Answer questions and provide information to the public; research information; interpret data and explain regulations to citizens; assist with inquiries pertaining to current development.

2. Verify that application submittals have all prerequisite approvals. Verify that application and project information provided is complete and is acceptable.

3. Perform general cashiering duties in the receipt of monies for application fees; perform routine record keeping activities to record data.

4. Assist in the set-up and preparation of board and commission meetings; attend meetings as assigned; transcribe meeting minutes.

5. With assistance from senior department staff, read and interpret site and plot plans; explain City ordinances; advise the public concerning changes or adjustments in plans to ensure compliance.

6. Collect, and record technical data; prepare backup information for staff.

7. Perform a wide variety of general clerical work including the maintenance of accurate and detailed logs and records; verify accuracy of information, research discrepancies and record information.

8. Learn and understand electronic project management software system, enter and record project progress, and establish project records.

9. Establish schedules and methods for providing technical and clerical support services; identify resource needs; review needs with appropriate management staff; allocate resources accordingly.

10. Manage public communication with the Department; includes covering telephones; taking messages and forward calls to appropriate personnel; responding to public inquiries and complaints in a courteous manner; providing information within the area of assignment; resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.

11. Provide information and forms to the public as needed; apply departmental policies and procedures in determining completeness of applications, forms, records and reports; answer questions about the need for approvals, permits, inspections and general code compliance.
