 Mission Statement

The APA Colorado Sustainability Committee promotes the integration of comprehensive sustainability principles in planning policy and practice within the profession and in the communities where we work by identifying and sharing innovative methods, offering policy recommendations and encouraging the incorporation of green practices to help build more sustainable communities through education and outreach.

 Sustainability Definition

The use of resources to maintain or enhance the built environment for the purpose of sustaining local and regional environmental, economic and social opportunities, thereby meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations.

Goals

  • Identify innovative methods (by surveying planning and professional communities)

  • Collaborate with other green organizations and engage young planners

  • Offer policy recommendations

  • Share innovative methods, foster dialog, raise awareness on sustainability issues and how they relate to planning (includes information on website, articles in newsletter, host annual seminar for planners, create sessions for conferences, and facilitate a community workday once a year to volunteer time to assist in a community improvement project
