PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY

We are seeking a professional candidate who will be responsible for planning and implementing projects and programs to help Adams County become a more sustainable county. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying and promoting sustainable practices in the county to save tax dollars, assure clean land, air and water, and improve working and living environments that will allow the county to thrive today as well as in the future.

EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Develops and implements a plan for reaching Adams County's sustainability goals.
  • Establishes sustainability benchmarks and process for measurement and verification.
  • Utilizes known programs to analyze and track sustainability indicators.
  • Develops process for analyzing sustainability best practices, services, and products.
  • Analyzes county activities through environmental, economic and social lenses.
  • Develops cost/benefit NPV analyses to recommend optimal list of best practices.
  • Maps Adams County's supply chain and develops program for making it more sustainable.
  • Quantifies Adams County's public GHG/carbon/ecological footprint in all three scopes.
  • Writes annual Sustainability Report documenting economic, environmental, social successes.
  • Coordinates efforts to advance sustainable practices within the county.
  • Provides technical research and assistance on sustainability issues to all county departments.
  • Serves as a sustainability liaison to policy-makers, program and technical staff, and contractors.
  • Prepares oral and written reports and presentations covering complex technical analysis of various sustainability issues for staff, governmental officials, citizens, and other county stakeholders.
  • Prepares policy recommendations based on technical analysis.
  • Coordinates and provides support for the Adams County Green Team, a cross-departmental work group charged with developing and implementing sustainable projects and programs for Adams County facilities.
  • Promotes awareness and education regarding sustainability issues amongst county employees.
  • Develops and monitors contracts for sustainability-related projects and activities.
  • Manages sustainability program schedule, budget, communication, and success.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required.

REQUIREMENTS

Experience: Demonstrated experience in sustainability program management, public administration, project management, public policy development, or environmental science.

Education and Training: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in environmental science, sustainability, planning, or a related field.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS License or Certificate: Valid driver's license and automobile insurance.

Background Check: Must pass a criminal (CBI) background check.
