Description: Temporary Position Jefferson County Planning and Zoning PLANNER INTERNSHIP $15.00/Hour (20 to 40 hrs/wk)
The Department of Planning and Zoning at Jefferson County is currently seeking a qualified planner to assist with planning and zoning functions. This position would provide practical experience. Essential Job Functions: Specific responsibilities would include: Receiving and responding to inquiries from the public and county personnel, providing information pertaining to land use, zoning regulation, and building permit requirements. Reviewing, under general supervision, permit applications, site plans and blueprints to ensure compliance with state and county regulations. Excellent customer service is a requirement for this position. Minimum Training and Experience. Must currently be in the process of obtaining a bachelor’s or master’s degree in planning, architectural design, landscape design or geography. Experience with GIS, ArcView and/or ArcInfo is desirable. Special Requirement: Must possess a valid Colorado driver’s license by hire date; current copy of MVR required.

Position: GIS Internship (Two Positions Available) – Town of Winter Park Planning Department Dates: June and July, 2008 Hours: 40 Hours per Week – Working Hours are Flexible Pay Rate: $10 per Hour
Duties: The Town of Winter Park, the Winter Park Water and Sanitation District, and the Grand County Water and Sanitation District No. 1 are looking to add mapping information related to the physical infrastructure of the Upper Fraser Valley to an existing GIS database. The Interns will focus on gathering data using handheld GPS devices to collect information related to trails, rivers, creeks, water lines, sewer lines, and other similar physical features. Additional projects related to planning and community development can be expected. Qualifications: Qualified applicants must be enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in Planning, Geography, or a related field, and must have completed a minimum of six (6) credit hours of GIS or remote sensing; or an acceptable combination of education and experience. Qualified applicants shall have experience using ESRI ArcGIS software and basic competency with the editing and georeferencing tools in ArcView v9.x. Experience with Trimble GPS receivers a plus. Applicants must be able to work outdoors in a high alpine environment, and must be able to perform physical duties related to gathering spatial data related to our community-wide infrastructure.
