Design and Preservation Rapid Assistance Team (D-PRAT)

Town of Center, CO — October 18-19th, 2021

Want to volunteer short term? Are you interested in pro-bono AICP-CM credits? Eager to share your creative problem-solving skills?

Our division is currently looking for interested members who would like to participate in our technical-assistance program and are able to be present at the two-day, in-person Design Charette in October 2021 (tentatively planned for October 18th through October 19th).

The Urban Design and Preservation Division’s Design and Preservation Rapid Assistance Team (D-PRAT) is a pro-bono program to support under-resourced communities and organizations in their efforts to collaboratively plan for the future of Urban Design and Preservation in their areas.

We are preparing to launch the first D-PRAT exercise this fall, working with the community of Center, CO to help them plan for the future development of their Downtown.

The Town is looking for technical expertise to outline a conceptual master plan with planning phases for a 90-acre property they recently purchased adjacent to the Town core. The plan should help them respond to future housing needs; create new opportunities for education, interaction, and resiliency; celebrate the historic character of the original downtown; and generally, provide for improved quality of life for the Town’s residents–current and future.

We are looking for a Project Manager, an Urban Designer, a Historic Preservation specialist, and a Student Representative to form the team, that once assembled, will finalize project goals and phases in partnership with the host community and DCI Colorado. All D-PRAT volunteers will participate in one virtual meeting with the host community (to be scheduled in early October) to further refine the problem statement and deliverables, the host’s obligations, and to plan the event.

The Division will cover travel costs for up to three participants. Please let us know if you are interested.
